This is a picture of a ptarmigans. This is the only bird I am aware of that lives in the alpine zone of the Rockies and Sierras. I feel "very" fortunate to get this picture because the bird stood still and allowed me to get very close...and...I have only seen a ptarmigan a couple of other times. They are very difficult to spot because they blend in with the landscape. Lucky me!
