This morning I decided to hike up to get some photos of Bridal Veil Falls. These are the falls you can see from the town of Telluride. Initially I only intended to hike up a ways to get a good shot from the bottom of the falls but once I arrived at the bottom I decided to go higher and see the house which sits at the top of the falls. And once I arrived at the top I decided to head towards the top of the pass above which was probably a bad idea because I didn’t eat breakfast and didn’t bring any food alone. Oh well, when nature calls me I have a hard time resisting. So, what started out as a one and half hour hike turned into a four hour hike.
The trail beyond the top of the falls gradually gets steeper and steeper as you head towards some beautiful lakes and a basin. The steep trail which I never intended to hike was made bearable by two hikers sharing some of the food with me and the hope of getting some incredible shots from the top. But, it was not to be on this day because I ran out of gas about half way up the switchbacks. Realizing it would take much of the rest of the day to make it to the top being out of water and food I decided to turn around.
After hiking about half way down the trail I decided to try and hitchhike the rest of the trail that was doubling as a four wheel drive road. My first attempt at hitching a ride didn’t take long. I think I waited about five minutes before someone came along to rescue me from another two miles down a steep hill. And, that was what I did this morning. This afternoon I am going to ride up the gondola and check out the biking trails and ski village which is about 1000 feet above Telluride. So, the adventures continue.
