What a lovely evening in Durango Colorado. I just finished riding the bike path in Durango which follows the Animas river for miles and miles. It is one of the best bike paths I have experienced and I have been on some pretty nice bike paths during my travels. It was a breezy evening with dark clouds above, pregnant with moisture but not mother natures time to give birth. While riding the bike path I saw three or four deer that were literally a few feet from me. Apparently they are accustomed to daily human contact because they didn't budge as I approached them. I also saw three or four fly fishermen standing in the middle of the screen gracefully swishing their fly line back and forth. The sight of these fishermen looked like a scene from the Robert Redford movie A River Runs Through It. I rode my bike for about an hour and a half getting off my bike three or four times to walk, because my back stiffens up if I stay on the bike too long. While the river runs on one side of the bike path there is also a park that parallels the bike path. One time I just got off the bike and laid on the grass and watched the black clouds hover over a nearby mountain peak...and...on another occasion I did my stretching exercises in the grass. The grass was so cool and soft to my skin. All in all, it was the best evening yet. Finally, I had some time to just relax after a couple of days of driving for most of the day and trying to get ready for the evening. Hopefully, there will be many more evenings like tonight during the rest of the trip.
